Fluid flow regime transition in water lubricated spiral grooved face seals

چکیده

Spiral grooves are used to enhance the generation of a fluid film between sliding surfaces mechanical face seal when fluids with poor lubrication properties be sealed. This technical solution allows reducing asperity contact, wear, and friction during operation, due full surfaces. However because thickness film, flow regime can turn from laminar turbulent. transition significantly affect performance needs evaluated. Simulations have been performed water lubricated spiral grooves. The numerical model solves Reynolds equation energy in film. thermo-mechanical fluid–solid coupling is considered. theoretical predictions temperature compared experimental findings obtained on dedicated test rig seals different groove depths. comparison identify critical numbers corresponding regime.

Visual Observation of Flow Regime Transition in Downward Vertical Gas-Liquid Flow Using Simple Mixer

Different flow patterns of downward gas-liquid two-phaseflow using simple mixer are studied in an experimental manner. An experimental setup is designed and fabricated to allow the visual observation of downward two-phase flow patterns and their transitions. The flow patterns are recorded by a 1200 frames per second high speed video camera. The quality of downward two-phase flow patterns photos...

Hydrodynamically Lubricated and Grooved Biomimetic Self-Adapting Surfaces

In many machines and mechanical components, there is a need for new bearing technologies to reduce friction and wear, and provide precision control of motion when the load is varied. This can be provided by electronically controlled actuators and sensors on the surfaces, but then the system reliability can be an issue. In contrast, biomimetic surfaces can be created that adapt mechanically to v...

The Exact Analytical Solution for the Gas Lubricated Bearing in the Slip and Continuum Flow Regime

The exact analytical solution for the compressible two-dimensional gas flow in the microbearing is presented. The general slip-corrected Reynolds lubrication equation is derived and it is shown that it possesses an exact analytical solution. It is obtained by a suitable transformation of the independent variable, and it provides the pressure distribution in the bearing as well as the mass flow ...

Flow Seals Parameters Analysis For Rotors

The interaction of work fluid mechanics with that of the rotary system itself, basically composed of axes, bearings and rotors, is performed by inserting equivalent dynamic coefficients in the mathematical model of the rotor, the latter being obtained by the finite element method. In this paper, the dynamic coefficients of inertia, stiffness and damping of the flat seals analyzed here are evalu...
